In Poperinge (not far from Ypres) back in 1915 an army chaplain called Philip 'Tubby' Clayton opened an everyman's club. This safe place for soldiers was a venue where rank was forgotten and orders were prohibited – it was a chance to forget about the war. This exhibition tells the story of Tubby and his efforts using items from the house itself and the original memoirs he wrote after fleeing the Germans.
