The tradition of making cloth from the inner bark of trees was likely to have arrived in the islands of the Pacific with the first human settlers some 5,000 years ago. This exhibition includes clothing, headdresses, masks and body adornment made from barkcloth in a wide range of styles and designs, reflecting the histories, tastes and creativity from New Guinea in the west across to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in the east.
