Topman is as on-trend as the high street gets for guys. And while it’s true that on a Saturday this flagship resembles something of a teenage Hades – blaring music and endless queues – everyone here knows that they’re on to a good thing. Well-cut jeans for all shapes and sizes are cheap and always popular. Other offerings range from brightly coloured print T-shirts and arty trenchcoats to knitted polos, faux leather jackets and a wide range of patterned pyjamas. September 2008 saw the launch of twice-yearly capsule collections by young designers; Lens offers clothing by the likes of Dexter Wong, Christopher Shannon and Carolyn Massey, released in February and September. The Topshop Design collection, meanwhile, fuses sharp tailoring with technical sportswear: think collarless shirts, scoop neck jumpers, salopettes and wayfarer-style sunglasses.
