Considering the well-heeled, middle-class leafiness of Kennington and Oval at their classiest, the lack of decent shopping options (there’s a Tesco and a bookshop, basically) is somewhat baffling. Fortunately the weekly Oval Farmer’s Market redresses the balance somewhat: taking place in the yard of the towering St Mark’s, it’s a relaxed affair with something of a ‘church fete’ vibe. Fresh seasonal fruit and veg stalls bookend the market, and there are locally sourced meats, cheeses and fresh fish, with numerous ready to eat options (crepes, coffee, exotic sausages) and hippy dippy veggie and vegan stalls around the fringes.
