Chapel Market may be situated in Islington, spiritual home of London’s champagne socialists, but it remains a down-to-earth affair – well, mostly. Running along the road of the same name, two minutes from Angel tube, it has stalls selling unpretentious fruit and veg, cheap and cheerful household goods, and the sort of clothing you’d see the shoppers of Albert Square fingering. A few street food stands have crept in, but they’re outnumbered by long-running traditional traders. Chapel Market is open for business Tuesday through Saturday from 9am-5pm, then on Sundays it welcomes the well-regarded Islington Farmers’ Market. As you’d expect, that’s very much an organic kale and home-made sourdough kind of place. Nick Levine
