By the time he opened NOPI in 2011, Yotam Ottolenghi was already a culinary superstar. His eponymous Notting Hill deli had well-established his trademark aesthetic – white walls, colourful food – and penchant for delicate, veg-based (but not exclusively meat-free) Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian-influenced concoctions. NOPI, a sort-of acronym for North Of Piccadilly, represented an expansion of that vision, with a more formal atmosphere, large sharing tables and an open kitchen. The menu changes with the seasons, but you can generally expect a pared-back selection of mains, with an emphasis on smaller plates tailor-made (or not) for sharing. The savoury cheesecake remains a certified mind-blower after all these years, while the nduja cod sums up everything great about Ottolenghi and this Soho mainstay.
