The original Trishna, in Mumbai, is a homely gaff serving up sensationally spicy fare. Chef Karam Sethi, inspired by its success, partnered with its proprietors to open this London version in 2008 (he’s also behind Mayfair’s seriously swanky Gymkhana). In terms of atmosphere, the London version of Trishna is somewhere between Gymkhana and its Mumbai counterpart. It’s decidedly upscale, with the focus on quality (and a price tag to match), but the setting is also slightly informal. The seafood-centred venture has boasted a Michelin star since 2012, and you’ll soon see why. It’s right there in the Dorset brown crab, a signature dish doused in butter and devilishly laced with chilli; and the coastal bhindi, a coconut-scattered pile of okra that packs a fiery punch. If you want to show you’re in the know but not trying too hard, this is the place.

The chocolate chikki, a gloriously gluttonous pistachio-infused cake served with a refreshing dollop of jackfruit ice cream, is the definition of luxury.
Time Out tip
Trishna’s done a cracking job of pairing wines with each dish, so don’t be afraid to ask for advice.
