Born in Italy and now trading across London, family-owned Unico is part ice-cream parlour and part caffè. Like its siblings in Bromley, Notting Hill, Fulham and St John’s Wood, the Holland Park branch dispenses luscious gelati including ‘classic’ flavours, vegan options and ‘gourmet’ concoctions such as crema bologna (eggs, Madagascar vanilla and Sicilian lemon zest). There are also cakes and pastries to go with proper Italian coffee, as well as savoury snacks ranging from focaccia packed with mortadella to self-styled ‘bubbles’ (special long-fermented rolls made with stone-ground flour and filled with anything from bolognese sauce to aubergine parmigiana).
