The brainchild of Sam and Samantha Clark from big-hitting Moro next door, teeny-weeny Morito is one of the highlights of Exmouth Market – an effortlessly cool, Spanish/Moorish hideaway with gorgeous 1970s styling, a binding orange bar and a line-up of quickfire aromatic tapas. Signature ‘moritos’ such as ajo blanco soup with cherries or red poponcini peppers with spiced labneh give way to pan con tomate, marinated turbot fritura with harissa, beetroot borani or rabbit with rosemary and muscatel, while sweetness comes from Moro’s famous Malaga raisin ice cream or chocolate mousse with roasted almonds and olive oil. To drink, it’s all about cocktails, sherries and all-Spanish wines by the glass or carafe. There’s a one-hour bar menu mid-afternoon, although the hot weekend ticket is brunch (11am-4pm) – think huevos rotos (broken eggs) with harissa-spiked Bloody Marys.
