Fans of this longstanding South Bank restaurant are legion – and with good reason. It’s always refreshing to see venues that could easily rely on incredible views serving high-quality food on a consistent basis, and Oxo Tower is certainly in that camp. But let’s be honest, those views – easily spied through the expansive glass frontage and an excellent alfresco area – really are impressive.
The menu has been created by Exec Head Chef Jeremy Bloor, who has been overseeing things here for nearly a decade. There’s a focus on seasonal ingredients, so the menu changes regularly, but it's usually seriously readable. At the time of writing highlights include Dorset crab with a seaweed salad, cucumber, apple, avocado purée and crab ketchup, duck breast with smoked duck croquettes, pea purée, bacon lardons and duck sauce, and a raspberry ripple cheesecake with pistachio granola and candied lemon.
As we say, very readable. Afternoon tea is also a real draw here, and if you like the venue and want to explore its other arms, there’s a lovely brasserie and a banging bar, too.
