This pub’s a bit of a Tardis. Cuddling the spacious bar-room, with its play-your-own vinyl deck, are: a front terrace; coffee bar; a back courtyard with nude lady fountain; and a decommissioned caravan recommissioned as extra seats for kids and the young-at-heart. Table service is indefatigably cheery, but the kitchen can at times be a little overextended. Perfection is hard to achieve across five kinds of roast (pork, lamb, chicken, beef, vegetarian, all the veg, gravy and a Yorkshire), plus children’s versions, and puddings tend to overinvention – witness the deconstructed apple crumble. Nonetheless, the Victoria works its socks off to please, and it does.
