An upmarket Mayfair Mexican from Arjun Waney - the chap behind Zuma, Roka and Oblix at The Shard. Despite the name - taken from the Mexican cactus from which mescaline is derived - trips here usually remain entrenched in reality.
The poshed-up Mexican food ranges from guacamole, grilled cactus and octopus with a lemon salsa to lobster ceviche, Chilean sea bass with a coriander and pineapple sauce, and chuleta de cordero - lamb chops served here with a mint and habinero salsa. Desserts include churros, a whiskey crème caramel and cheesecake with a hibiscus granite.
Mezcal and tequila feature prominently on Peyote's cocktail list, with a wide array of both available by the glass and bottle, too. The wine list does feature a couple of Mexican bottles but wisely concentrates on well-known winemaking regions for the rest of the list - expect plenty of old world options.
A three-course set lunch menu is a good choice for those on a budget.
