It’s no surprise that there’s a glitzy restaurant on the 33rd floor of the Shard, or that the prices might exceed your most sky-high expectations. What’s a little more surprising is the attention to detail and homely service that defines the London branch of Hong Kong’s Hutong. When the views are this sensational (even from the men’s loos, which look onto a glass window), it’s impressive that they try so hard to keep your eyes glued on the plate before you. This is grub from northern China – albeit a poshed-up take – so expect to tickle your taste buds with some serious spice. The sprawling menu groans with zingy broths, delicate dim sum and dizzyingly flavoursome mains, with everything doused in chilli.
