Find out more the latest gigs and goings on at The Magic Roundabout.
In a nutshell…
This club space packs in everything you could need for partying this winter under one roof.
Where is it?
Literally in the middle of Old Street Roundabout, rising majestically above the confusion of the tube station’s subway system. It’s easy to forget you are dancing above the heads of tube drivers and passengers thanks to some inspired prop placement obscuring the regulation TfL concrete.
What’s the vibe?
Mostly ‘phones out’. We defy you to resist snapping the ridiculously Insta-friendly décor while DJs play out from the mouth of a giant Chinese dragon. They have previously teamed up with nearby club XOYO plus cool French label Kitsuné, so expect music heads, Shoreditch media types and supposed ‘regular’ Professor Green.
What makes it a great venue?
The sheer range of activities on offer. There was both a 16-hour techno marathon and Nintendo-themed party last weekend alone. Also the layout across the different spaces is basically an invitation to play: rotate between trippy toadstools in the Far Out Forest, chasseur trophies in The Bassano Hunting Lodge and plush fabrics in the Year of the Dragon VIP area. The only drawback is you might expect all clubs to have a staircase leading directly to the tube (they don’t).
What’s the food and booze situation?
Lots of quality street-food hatches: patty stacks from Burger Bear (who delivered burgers by drone last year!) to trashy vegan booze snacks from Dirty Vegan. East London Liquor Company and Italy’s oldest distillery Nardini provide the key ingredients for a range of vintage cocktails and hot toddies at the three bars.
Finally, any random occurences there?
Londoners stretching out to a silent disco yoga class at 6am in the middle of a roundabout is probably up there.
