LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL: Mehliana - Brad Mehldau/Mark Guiliana + Sons Of Kemet

Time Out says

Top US pianist Mehldau is almost as well known for his archly philosophonical sleevenotes as for his highly classical, Bach-influenced style of composition and improvisation. His Bill Evans-ish style has produced wonderfully oblique takes on Nick Drake, Radiohead and Soundgarden, and a disturbingly good version of Oasis's 'Wonderwall'. Tonight he continues to blur the boundaries between jazz and – well, everything else – by teaming up with incredibly talented drummer Guiliana for an evening of free improv that will likely run into the realms of D&B and dance-funk. Opening the show, sax star Shabaka Hutchings leads the double-drumming wallop of SOK, whose tub-thumping stylistic mash-up combines New Orleans, African, Caribbean and dub sounds, with some scorching improv thrown in for good measure.

This event is part of the 2013 London Jazz Festival.
