London's only full-time women's venue was originally launched in 1996 by promoter Kim Lucas, who painted the walls pink and introduced lap and pole dancers. It's been through several owners and is now part of the hugely successful Ku Bar group, owned by leading Soho gay businessman Gary Henshaw.
The venue is run by women, for women - or 'by girls, for girls' as the press release puts it. In 2011 Sandra D, who runs the popular girls' night Ruby Tuesdays at Ku, was put in charge at a new-look Candy. She introduced new regular nights Monster on Saturdays - all about monster hits we know and love, from the last few decades - and dirty electro night EcLekTra on Wednesdays, with Coco Yeah from Koochooloo as the main resident.
