St James’s Piccadilly is the only Wren church outside the City to hold free lunchtime recitals (Mon, Wed, Fri at 1.10pm; suggested donation £3.50) and also offers regular evening concerts of all musical varieties. It was first opened to the public in 1648 and has several serious claims to fame – William Blake was baptised here in 1757, Leopold Stokowski was choirmaster from 1902 until 1905 before he became a world-famous conductor and the poet Robert Graves had his wedding here in 1918. The church has a café attached and arts and crafts markets are held at the church from Wednesday to Saturday, with a food market on Monday and Tuesday.

Time Out says
Consecrated in 1684, St James's Piccadilly is the only functioning church designed by Sir Christopher Wren in London's West End. St James's became know as "the artists' church" due to the many artists connected with the church.
We embrace relevant contemporary art and creativity. In 2023 Che Lovelace unveiled a new commission to mark the 250th anniversary of the baptism of Ottobah Cugoano, theologian and prominent abolitionist of 18th century, four paintings are installed in the foyer.
St James’s seeks to be an inclusive, welcoming place for everyone to reflect, create and debate. As part of our mission to celebrate artistry and ingenuity, we host music, talks, performances and exhibitions, with lunchtime recitals each Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (pay what you can) and a series of special events and evening concerts throughout the year.
We also offer hospitality to people experiencing homelessness, living on low incomes, going through the gruelling asylum system or suffering from fragile mental health. A unique service based in the garden offers free drop-in counselling, 7 days a week.
Our programme of Earth Justice activity is rooted in loving and understanding the whole world and all its inhabitants (human and other-than-human) so that we act from a place of belonging. St James’s achieved Gold Eco Church status in 2018.
The street food market is open Mon to Thurs 11am-3pm, and offers 10 vendors selling a range of delicious cuisines from around the world
