Efes is a prime hang-out in Dalston, where various generations of trendies (and a few old Turks) can play pool or snooker in harmony while watching the football or MTV Base. If you arrive later than 8pm on any night, you'll likely have to wait to play pool, but the snooker tables are near enough always free, because let's face it, no one really knows how to play that game. While you wait with pound coins stationed strategically on different pool tables, you can take advantage of the ping pong or table football, or have a bash at the boxing machine. The soundtrack is typically hip-hop and R&B and entry is always free, unless a club night is on, when there may be a door charge after a certain time. Also, on Wednesdays and Thursdays Plonk crazy golf sets up a 200ft course in the venue (snaking around the pool tables) that is £7.50 for two rounds and is crazy fun. And if all that's not enough to draw you in, perhaps the added bonus of being able to take your kebab with you and an easily accessible smoking area will persuade you.
