This ‘North Africa and the Middle East meet Europe’ event explores refugee and migrant experience from the 1940s into the twenty-first century. It features screenings of ‘Casablanca’, introduced by the journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed, and a triptych of grand pianos played by refugee artists around the museum – three reincarnations of Sam in Rick’s café. Artists include the Jewish Algerian pianist Maurice El Médioni, the Syrian-born, London-based Iraqi musician Khyam Allami, the Latin Jazz pianist Alex Wilson and the Reem Kelani Quartet. Plus classical Arabic and Andalusian music, Electronic Gnawa Fusion and Moroccan Gnawa Master Simo Lagnawi. A Refugee Week event.
