Two Night Stand

When a movie opens with a young woman (Analeigh Tipton) setting up a late-night hook-up with a total stranger (Miles Teller) at his apartment, you might expect a grim, potentially gruesome cautionary tale about the perils of cybersex. Instead, what unfolds is yet another would-be charming, deeply conservative male fantasy about how even the smartest girls can be charmed out of their pants by a schlubby doofus with a penchant for heavy negging.

When a snowstorm blows in and the pair are trapped together indefinitely, we just know their initial awkwardness is going to blossom into something more serious. Released into cinemas on the back of Teller’s strong performance in ‘Whiplash’, ‘Two Night Stand’ is a low-budget, low-ambition romcom that just about scrapes by on a handful of decent one-liners and a pair of intermittently likeable leading turns.

But there’s just not enough here to make a whole movie: the characters are thin and derivative, the plot is and the conclusion is tediously foregone. Save your night out for something better.
