Time Out says

How much you get out of this American indie romcom about a woman on the verge of a quarter-life crisis will depend on where you stand on Keira Knightley doing her goofy, ‘What me?’ normal girl routine. If the thought of it makes you want to lie face down on an ice rink and have people skate over your fingers, avoid. Everyone else, ‘Say When’, directed by Lynn Shelton is a bit try-hard, a little sitcom-y but mainly loveable. Knightley is Megan, a twentysomething from Washington with a serious case of arrested development. Living down the road from her parents, she’s still with her high school boyfriend Anthony (Mark Webber) and has never had a proper job.

When Anthony proposes, Megan freaks, escaping real-life by hanging out with her new teenage BFF Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz). They meet when Annika charms Megan into buying her booze outside an offy. Lynn Shelton wrote and semi-improvised her earlier films (best of them is the brilliant ‘Your Sister’s Sister’). This one, shot fly-on-they-wall style with a script by Andrea Seigel, feels less on it emotionally. But just when it’s beginning to lose you, along comes Sam Rockwell, stealing the show as Annika’s dad. He is oddly un-creeped out by the fact his daughter’s new best friend is nearly old enough to be her mother – but then she does look like Keira Knightley.
