Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
The story goes thus: Angel Grove, California, is menaced by Ivan Ooze (Freeman), an ugly mug with a propensity for creating buckets of purple slime. Can the six all-American teenage superheroes overcome their new rubbery adversary? The TV series from which this is derived is notorious for its indifferent B-movie sfx; matters are improved here with some notably effective computer-generated graphics. The comic-book fight sequences, too, are a little more imaginative. But, like the series, the film is also corny as hell, with glaring continuity lapses, cringeworthy performances, silly monsters and laughable set-pieces. (Why, for instance, do the Rangers always perform somersaults diagonally across the screen whenever they yell, 'Okay, it's morphin' time'?) Kids will love it.
