One of the East End’s longest running clubbing institutions (it opened back in 1995), Aquarium isn’t really a scenester hangout, attracting a more mixed crowd of up-for-it party girls and suits. Unsurprisingly given the name, Aquarium boasts a swimming pool and a jacuzzi, and things can get pretty hot ’n’ steamy on nights when both are open. Aquarium’s music policy varies with Carwash on Saturdays spewing out a mix of ’70s and ’80s sounds, a smattering of europop nights and the super-camp Adonis cabaret which regularly draws a hen night crowd. The real action starts in the wee small hours when Aquarium’s two floors come into their own as an after-party venue – edgy minimal sessions like Redlight providing a refuge for clubbers who just can’t face the trek home.
