UberPool is coming to London. No, its nothing to do with swimming, but in fact a new way of getting you around town that could save you some cash. The taxi app has introduced a new car-pooling service, which will save passengers 25 percent on the average journey cost if you're willing to share the car space with a stranger. It launches on Friday (December 4) and will be available for pick-ups in central London and at Heathrow airport.

But there are few rules – you can only use UberPool if you're travelling with up to one other person (so you can't cheat the system) and your driver will only wait two minutes for you before giving up, so that the other passengers don't get delayed. You'll pay a fixed price that will be 25 percent cheaper than an UberX, based on previous data for similar trips. And even if you aren't matched with another person heading in the same direction, you won't pay any more. In theory, it makes sense – but we're not sure how appealing the whole car-pooling thing will be at 4am when you're wasted and your cab buddy has a desire to share their life story inbetween stuffing their face with cheesy chips.

Master the art of cab etiquette with our guide to the five types of London cab passengers.

Or take a look at these five city hacks every Londoner should know.
