Attention, Star Wars fans – it's just been announced that tickets for the new spin-off movie, 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story', go on sale at midnight tonight for cinema-goers in UK and Ireland.

The film doesn't open in cinemas until Thursday December 15, but if the pre-release rush to buy tickets for last year's 'A Force Awakens' is anything to go by, film-goers will once again snap up hundreds of thousands of tickets in advance of the film's opening.

Clearly, Disney was waiting until the release of rival studio Warner Brothers's new movie 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' before opening ticket sales for 'Rogue One'. Now the Potter prequel is out, all eyes are on the new Star Wars film.

'Rogue One' is set some years before the story of the first ever Star Wars movie, 'A New Hope', and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn and others. The story is still being kept under wraps but it involves a gang of unlikely heroes getting together to steal plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.

Tickets for 'Rogue One' go on sale at exactly one minute past midnight tonight, as Sunday becomes Monday, so there will be a few tired Star Wars fans around tomorrow – but hopefully the glow of having tickets in their inbox will offset any sleep deprivation.

May the force of capable online booking systems be with you.
