If you like the idea of hosting a sophisticated supper club for all your pals, but break into a cold sweat at the thought of actually organising the whole thing, you're in luck. IKEA is launching a DIY pop-up restaurant in Shoreditch where you can invite up to 19 of your friends for a meal, and they'll do all the leg work for you - even the washing up.
From September 10 to September 25, the N&C Showrooms on Shoreditch High Street will be transformed into The Dining Club, where 38 lucky Londoners will get the chance to host a Scandi-inspired brunch, lunch or dinner in a private dining space. And the best part? You won’t have to spend a single penny, as the whole shebang is totally free.
With the help of IKEA food experts, you’ll choose the menu, with everything from ceviche to carpaccio, smoked fish to pork belly and white chocolate cheesecake or Rull Tårta (that’s a Swedish Roly Poly, for the uninitiated) for dessert.
On the day, you and your guests will roll your sleeves up and get in the kitchen to prepare a slap-up three-course meal, with the help of a professional sous chef. Then it’s time for the most important part: the eating. And it’ll taste even better knowing that you don’t have to worry about who’s going to be on pot washing duty later on. There are up to three slots every day, and you can bag yourself one by registering online or entering our competition to host on September 24.
If that's not enough, they're also hosting a tasty selection of food workshops, including sessions on fermentation, cost-cutting and how to make stylish Scandi food at home. Plus, they'll have a virtual reality kitchen showcase (and some non-virtual ones, too) so you can get some inspiration on how to spruce up your kitchen and make it look like the sleek, Scandi-inspired cooking space you've always wanted.
And if you're thinking 'but what about the meatballs?!', don't panic. There's also an all-day café, where they'll be serving up pulled-salmon rolls, smorgasbords and everybody's favourite Swedish meatballs.
