[title]
When Marty McFly and Doctor Emmett Brown jumped into their Delorean and travelled 30 years forward in time in ‘Back to the Future II’, they arrived on October 21, 2015. That day has finally arrived, and to welcome Doc and Marty to the terrifying dystopia that is 2015 there are a whole load of parties and events taking place across London this week.
Movie night in Greenwich
On Wednesday October 21 the Brooklyn Bowl hosts a special screening of the time travel film. There’s an ’80s cover band booked to play and anyone turning up in a retro costume can win free bowling and gig tickets. Entry is free, like Pepsi Free.
Future grooves in Peckham
Only two days late (what’s that matter when you’ve travelled 30 years?), the Bussey Building in Peckham presents a double-decker ‘Back to the Future’ party called Delorean Dynamite on Friday October 23. Level 1 showcases the best dance sounds of 2015 for any time travellers needing a quick education in house, techno and disco. If you feel safer stuck in the past then head to Level 2 and revisit Hill Valley High School in 1955. The Enchantment Under the Sea Dance offers rock ’n’ roll and ‘aquatic antics’.
Back to the ’80s in Chelsea
Maggie’s club on Fulham Road exists in a permanent ’80s timewarp (plus inflation), so naturally they’re going big on the ‘Back to the Future’ action. On Saturday October 24 at their ‘Back to the Future Day’ party you can kick back in an actual, real Delorean, down Pepsi cocktails and generate 1.21 gigawatts of party energy dancing to Huey Lewis & The News. You could even win a hoverboard – just don’t try to ride it home.
Comedy, central
There are also two ‘B2TF’-themed comedy nights this week. On Tuesday October 20, the night before ‘Back to the Future’ Day, the Comedians’ Cinema Club recreates ‘Part II’ in its entirety – but with a lot more booze, fluffed lines and nudity – at The Phoenix. Then on Wednesday October 21, Rat Pack Comedy host Nathan Cassidy performs all three of his ‘Back to the Future’ solo shows in one evening at the Leicester Square Theatre – quite an undertaking, so don’t call him chicken.
We’d love to sign off with ‘Where you’re going, you don’t need roads,’ but unfortunately the night tube has just been delayed again. Turns out the future isn’t so great after all.
