Have you always wanted to sit down with a local politician and have a really serious heart-to-heart talk? And have you always wanted to ride a seven-person bicycle? Somewhat improbably, Hackney Wick’s righteous Yard Theatre is giving you the opportunity to do both at the same time.

‘This is What Democracy Looks Like’ is a show by Ellie Harrison that sits a member of local government – three London MPs (Jim Fitzpatrick, Meg Hillier and Stephen Timms) and various councillors are taking part – on a large bike with six members of the public for an hour-long ride about the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to presumably talk about the issues of the day. Exactly what will get achieved politically is questionable, but it should probably be noted that a seven-seater bicycle requires a considerable degree of cooperation to function – it's a truly democratic vehicle (possibly the reason the Tories seem to be a bit wary of it – there’s only one Conservative taking part, and even then they’re TBA).

The free event runs for three days this week: Thursday and Friday’s rides must be booked online, while Saturday is walk-ups only.
