Have you seen queues of people shivering on The Strand and wondered what the hell they were doing? That would be culture vultures waiting to get into the Hayward Gallery's off-site smash-hit video exhibition 'The Infinite Mix'. We gave it a ★★★★★ review and everyone has been loving it, so much so that I had to wait 40 minutes to get in to see the damn thing one Saturday afternoon a few weeks back. It was meant to close on Sunday December 4 but we have just heard a few moments ago that it will be extended for an extra week, closing on Sunday December 11 instead. Hurrah! Good news for anyone who's had it on their to-do list and still not made it.
Speaking of which, if you are going down, here are a few tips:
Go early
Yes, it's been extended but it will still be busy so you may need to queue for a bit.
Dress warm
Even once you've made it inside, it's still bloody freezing and you'll be sitting still for most of it. Wear layers.
Leave plenty of time
There are 10 video pieces to ponder so block out a few hours so you don't feel rushed.
Appreciate the view
Once you get upstairs, take a few mins to appreciate the unique view of the river. A building will be there soon so enjoy it while you can.
Go to the café
It's worth a trip for the bar/café alone. Sit on a comfy sofa amongst the plants and beautiful furniture and warm up with a coffee or boozy beverage while watching the river.
Go late
Can't make the weekend? It's open until 8pm in the evenings so go for some post-work culture.
