In news that will shock absolutely no one who’s ever had the misfortune of being anywhere near central London, Oxford Circus is the busiest station in the capital. Not in terms of commuter numbers but according to a way more fun metric: station closures due to overcrowding. Yes, everyone’s favourite way to spend an afternoon, right after self-immolation and hearing your parents bonk.
According to Transport for London, there were 547 ‘temporary station controls’ between March 2015 and February 2016 (that’s up from 531 the year before) and 219 of those were at Oxford Circus. In the same period, 39 million more journeys were taken than in the previous year. That’s set to continue rising. So, really, this is the perfect time to invest in a house in the countryside and leave London and the tube forever.
