Time Out says

When Gordon, a regular who you may meet sipping a glass of red at the bar, began coming here, the Fox & Hounds was even smaller than it is now, which is to say pretty small indeed. At that time, it was part of the Grosvenor Estate; it’s now linked to the Young’s chain, which explains the ales.

A wonderfully cosy place, it exudes a slight gentlemen’s club feel these days: the friendly landlord will address you as ‘Sir’ when you first order, surrounded by paintings of hunting scenes and a caricature of Churchill.

Honest pub grub at honest prices appears on weekday lunchtimes. Urban myth comes with the oft-repeated but never-verified rumour that this is where Tony Warren devised Coronation Street. Still, at least they haven’t renamed it the Rovers Return.
