Under the railway arches at Paradise Row is a whole roster of brilliant bars showing off quality wines and craft beers. And then there’s a seventh branch of London Cocktail Club, less about discerning drinking and more about The Fun. It milks a London Underground theme to echo its railway arch setting, so you’ll find vintage Tube posters, flashing metro signs and seats covered in the underground upholstery of nightmares. There’s also the happy clappy routine from staff behind the bar that has become synonymous with the brand. You’ll either love it or hate it, but at this end of town it’s likely to be the latter.
But what we can get behind is a daily happy hour hardly contested elsewhere in the capital, where two for one drinks are shaken at speed without quality being compromised. If you’re looking for a party, you’ve come to the right place. Especially if party for you means Justin Bieber tunes.
Classic cocktails come by the bucketload as well as LCC favourites, the bacon and egg martini included. Gimmicks continue in a similar vein throughout the menu – two neighbouring drinkers ordered bright blue Heisenbergs like they were going out of fashion (hint: they are). But stick with more straightforward numbers during happy hour, like a potent daiquiri and a decent spritz, and you’ll be laughing as much as the bar staff.
