From the outside, this black-painted building looks rather severe, but step inside and suddenly you’re in a bright and airy space that feels more like colonial-era Delhi than modern-day Clerkenwell with its luxuriant greenery, rattan furniture and clubby vibe. However, there’s nothing Raj-esque about a menu that runs from drop scones, cheeseburgers and huevos benedictos (chorizo, avocado, béarnaise sauce) at brunch-time to upbeat brasserie-style dishes for lunch and dinner. Kick off with beef croquettes with sriracha mayo or asparagus with a crispy poached duck egg and béarnaise sauce ahead of braised beef in red wine with fondant potato and greens or salmon fillet with miso broth and wilted vegetables. There are pastas and steaks too, plus desserts such as dark chocolate mousse with lavender and honeycomb. Cocktails are the big hits at the adjoining bar.
