Alex Katz: Black Paintings

Black isn’t often a colour you associate with the American painter’s work, whose portraits and landscapes are stylistically bright. For the past six decades, the New Yorker has immortalized friends and family (Ada, his wife has been a constant inspiration) with a cool effortlessness. His latest series lean towards the cinematic; as figures are immersed in a sea of black.
