Time Out says

As if the festive period wasn't boozy enough already, here comes the annual unmissable Christmas pub crawl that's an en masse tribute to the man with the bag. Santacon has been leading hordes of hatted revellers dressed in red on a merry journey through the streets of London for over 20 years now, all in the name of fun. The flashmob-style gathering will see a huge group of Santas wandering through the city giving out gifts and free hugs, singing carols and occasionally popping into the pub.

Towards the end of the routes (which are announced on the event's Facebook page a few days in advance) the groups join together into a huge throng. In case it isn’t already obvious this is a secular jolly; a ‘non-profit, non-political, non-religious and non-sensical’ celebration of the season. There are a few rules – being nice to children and not getting too drunk among them – and Santa herders will lead the way on the day. Just remember to go full suit, because those who just throw a hat on will be ostracized in a most un-Christmassy manner.
