DiverseCity: Shwe Mann Thabin Dance Theatre

PUSAKA is bringing legendary Burmese dance theatre company, Shwe Mann Thabin to our shores for this festival. Celebrated dance master Shwe Mann U Win Maung will also be dancing alongside 25 of Myanmar’s greatest living dancers and musicians. They will be performing the zat-pwe, a traditional dance with highly energetic sequences in quick movements and dramatic poses rarely seen outside its native land. Although many zats (stories or plots) are drawn from ancient Buddhist scriptures, the dance is also highly improvised. Especially for DiverseCity, the company will also perform excerpts of the Burmese dance of the ‘Ramayana’.
