The Arches announced yesterday that it was going into administration following the loss of its clubs license (a side of the business that helped finance its work in other areas such as arts and theatre). The reaction has been predictably vociferous, with protests from the worlds of clubbing, theatre, music and the arts and media at large, not to mention the punters themselves. Here's what it looked like on Twitter, where 'The Arches' is still trending at the time of writing.
Saddened to hear The Arches has gone into administration - went to some great gigs there. Unique and crackin' venue: http://t.co/ROiT44wATL

The Arches is the r & d lab of Scottish theatre. The carelessness with which it's been treated by the authorities is stupefying.

R.I.P Arches Glasgow ?

Arches decision looking more bonkers every minute
— Leo Mikłasz (@leomiklasz) June 10, 2015
The last time I was on stage was at the Arches. Under the rumble of the trains. In a glorious piece of writing by James Kelman. It was magic

The Arches closing is a blow to the artistic community that will be felt for a long time. Glasgow and Scotland have lost something special.

— m a r i a (@maria__casey) June 10, 2015
So sad The Arches has closed. Angry at the licensing board. I loved its art sector and I performed in there a few times. #savethearches ?
— bea webster (@rawkysand) June 11, 2015
Really angry about what's happened to the Arches. You won't know what you had till it's gone, Glasgow.

— janine matheson (@janinematheson) June 11, 2015
Arches closing, an absolute shocker. The depressing future, an authoritarian feeble minded Scotland, bloody hope not!
— mike (@dotdrama) June 11, 2015
Terrible news about @ArchesGlasgow - I've seen the most exciting and important performances at that vibrant venue. http://t.co/s2v5XXRpXU
— Beth Bate (@beth_bate) June 11, 2015
devastating about The Arches, I just can't believe it
— Kate Dickie (@dickie_kate) June 11, 2015
So Glasgow City Council let The Arches go under because of 'reasons' & they greenlit (ha!) Orangefest. It begs the question, what the fuck?
— Bombskare (@B0MBSKARE) June 11, 2015
I can't believe The Arches is going to simply vanish. How depressing.
— Kirkland Ciccone (@KirklandCiccone) June 11, 2015
Shit, the Arches... :-(
— John Boursnell (@johnboursnell) June 11, 2015

— (: (@DMiiiiT) June 11, 2015
Very sad the Arches has gone. And for most ridiculous of reasons. Police Scotland acted v badly IMHO but also about antiquated drug laws.
— modulemark (@modulemark) June 11, 2015
The closure of The #Arches is #heartbreaking. Such an important venue in Glasgow which made a tremendous impact. We're worse off without it.
— Destitutus Robots (@Bereftofrobots) June 11, 2015
Amid the outpourings of grief, though, were some more unsentimental reactions.
All those Glasgow School of Art folks be sad over how the Arches was such a good arts venue, everyone else is cause they lost dealers
— Kathryn McDonald (@90sHellKat_x) June 10, 2015
Comment after comment on the various great things (and I'm sure there were) in the Arches, but no reflection at all on someone dying there.
— Paul McFadden (@TheRealPaulMcF) June 10, 2015
Must be the only person in the world who doesn't actually care that The Arches has shut down. In fact, it's been too many years too late!
— Chris (@ChrisForLabour) June 11, 2015
If you're upset about the Arches closing, it's probably because so many people were absolutely off their faces (to the staff's knowledge).
— Jennifer (@jenbean00) June 11, 2015
And, the internet being what it is, there had to be at least one person having a laugh.
It's some world where the Arches gets shut down and Jurassic Park is allowed to open for a third time
