Thieves who have hijacked a plane, its crew and the $3 million it was carrying, make a forced landing near a seemingly deserted farmhouse after a greedy member of the gang bails out with money. The cornfields around the house are dotted with scarecrows, whose spindly limbs and rag faces take on an eerie quality as the sun goes down. Tensions between captors and captives heighten as members of both groups mysteriously disappear, to turn up later as disembowelled corpses stuffed with straw. Although a little slow to get started, this better-than-average horror movie makes excellent use of its creepily-lit monsters, is reasonably well put together, and features some stomach-turning grisliness.
