Shades of Kafka and the '60s cinema of narcissism haunt this rambling film in which the actor-auteur wanders blankly through both comic-strip New York street life and the intricacies of plea-bargaining after receiving a summons on a mysterious conspiracy charge. Though fitfully encouraging speculation on the relativity of guilt, it's essentially a movie of moments. Some, such as Taylor Mead's characteristically quirky cameo as a judge, are definitely worth waiting for; but finally there aren't quite enough to sustain the feature length.
