A rollicking rockabilly ride that gives the jukebox musical a good name, this hot show applies the truthiness doctrine to rock & roll. Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and a newly signed Jerry Lee Lewis really did meet up one fortuitous night in 1956 for a jam session at Sam Phillips's Sun Studio. It's unlikely they discussed the current state of the art form in the stilted manner of Eric Schaeffer and Floyd Mutrux's book, but who cares when their sound is re-created with such joy and care? The Chicago production recently passed the 2,500-performance mark.
