Modern Co-op
Shoppers have been flocking to one of Pilsen’s newest home stores, Modern Co-op, for its well-chosen selection of midcentury-modern furniture—but old-school finds aren’t the only thing this shop has to offer. Showing strong support for local designers, the store participates in Pilsen’s open studio night on the second Friday of each month, when it features the works of two artists who create pieces using repurposed materials. Featured designers have included Eddie Huber of Newfound Studio, who gives new life to furniture he finds in thrift stores and junk yards, and Emmy Star Brown, who does freehand paintings on salvaged glass windows. Looking for a vintage furniture piece for a photo shoot or theater production? Rent it here. 818 W 18th St (312-226-8525).—Kevin Aeh
