Remember when the internet collectively freaked out about a video of a rat dragging a slice of pizza through the New York City subway? Pizza Rat was a rodent that we could all identify with—a little guy intent on toting around a gigantic slice of pizza, so that he can safely consume it in the privacy of his own home (which was probably a sewer drain, or somewhere equally disgusting). Pizza Rat reminded us that, as humans, we're fortunate enough to be able to order a pizza, have it delivered to our apartment and avoid becoming a viral video star.
As of this morning, Chicago now has its own pizza-loving rodent to identify with—a plump squirrel clutching a slice of thin crust pizza (let's be honest, a slice of deep dish isn't exactly portable). The photo was shared on Twitter by Melissa McEwen, though DNAinfo credits the original shot to Ukrainian Village resident Andrew Goodman. Chalk this up as a another reason why Chicago kicks New York City's ass.
