Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has recalled all of its products due to "the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes," a bacterium that can cause fatal infections in small children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. The chain is immediately closing all of its shops, which includes two locations in Chicago, until all of its products are ensured to be completely safe.

The company said in a statement that there had not yet been any illnesses related to the recalled products, and the closure was "out of an abundance of caution." The contamination was discovered by a random sample collected by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.

The statement urges customers who have purchased any Jeni's products to dispose of them or return them for a refund.

For now, the city will be without the glory of the chain's Wildberry Lavender cone.
