Well, the Chicago Cubs have done it again, pulling ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS series with a second consecutive win—and this time it was in Wrigley.
While there was a bit of a scare after the Cardinals (aka Chicago's most-hated baseball team) took a one-run lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Cubbies held their ground and held off St. Louis—even with ace Jake Arrieta leaving the mound in the sixth after giving up four runs. That was only his fourth time this season leaving the game so early. The Cubs' offense hammered back to set an MLB record of six homers in a postseason game, with dingers coming from six different players. This gives the Cubs the chance to clinch the series at home tomorrow, to then take on the winner of the Mets-Dodgers faceoff for the National League pennant.
After the Cubs sealed the deal, fans remained inside the stadium to cheer on the team as they emerged from the benches and onto the field. Then, of course, the streets of Wrigleyville flooded. What else would you expect?
