When it's cold outside and stores are packed with a last-minute shoppers, a chance encounter with the CTA's Holiday Train is one of the most exciting things that can happen to you. One minute you're standing at a station trying to think of a thoughtful, yet practical gift to get for your dad, the next you're being blinded by a speeding train covered in twinkling lights, shimmering tinsel and other assorted seasonal decorations. It's enough to inject a little bit of holiday spirit into even the most jaded Scrooge.
Today, the CTA announced the schedule for the annual transit tradition, revealing that Green Line riders will be the first to see the Holiday Train when it makes its initial trip on Friday, November 28. The train will then make appearances on every CTA line throughout December, before making its final run on the Yellow Line on Tuesday, December 23. The train usually operates from 1–8pm on weekends and 3–7pm on select weekdays. You can find a detailed schedule on the CTA website.
Not a fan of taking the El? This year, the CTA is debuting a Holiday Bus which features antlers and a giant red nose. The bus will travel on nine CTA routes between December 2 and 23, and will offer photos with Santa on select dates. The bus will make its first appearance tomorrow at the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.
