A new luxury development in Logan Square will have an El car on its patio

Residents at one of the newest luxury high-rise developments on Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square won't just be able to take the El to work, they'll be able to hang out in a retired CTA train car. Earlier this week, crews hoisted the repurposed car—which has been stripped of its windows, seats and poles—to the development's second floor patio, where it will become a functional part of the decor.

Renderings of the completed patio depict the train car surrounded by a pool of water, a fountain and benches where residents will be able to relax and enjoy the view of functioning CTA cars rolling by on the nearby CTA Blue Line. Living in an apartment complex with a train car on its patio doesn't come cheap—rents for the 120 units in the building will range from $1,575 to $3,900 and will be leased and marketed by Luxury Living Chicago Realty. If apartments that incorporate trains are the new status symbol, how long will we have to wait until someone plops a Metra car on top of some condos?
