Time Out says

Everything you need to know about visiting Maggie Daley Park (337 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601).

One of the latest additions to the Chicago Park District, Maggie Daley Park pays tribute to the late first lady of the city with 20 acres of recreational opportunity. Walk across the BP Pedestrian Bridge from Millennium Park and you’ll be greeted by a 40-foot climbing wall, a quarter-mile skating ribbon and one of the most whimsical playgrounds in the city. With facilities fit for kids and adults, this is a park where the entire family can spend the day having fun outdoors

Ride the ribbon

One of the most distinctive features of Maggie Daley Park is its quarter-mile skating ribbon, which wraps around a climbing wall. In the winter, the ribbon is coated with ice so that ice skaters can slide along the curvy path. When the weather gets warm, it becomes a walking, jogging or rollerblading path, complete with a gradually sloping surface that should help you pick up some speed.

Play all day

There’s no better way to wow the kids than with a trip to Maggie Daley Park’s Play Garden, a three-acre playground that’s divided into themed areas. It’s anchored by the towering Slide Crater, where bridges and slides emerge from a pair of towers. The little ones will also enjoy the Enchanted Forest, a path that winds through upside down trees and vegetation, or the the Watering Hole, where you can get soaked by spouts and showers.

Our Chicago editorial team is constantly updating and reviewing the best attractions, activities and venues across the city, so that you're always in the know, with the best of Chicago at your fingertips. Maggie Daley Park was most recently updated with new tips on June 30, 2017.

What’s on

Ice Skating at Maggie Daley Park

Situated in the heart of downtown Chicago with the city's sweeping skyline as a backdrop, the Skating Ribbon at Maggie Daley Park is a winter attraction unlike any other. Skaters can lace up and wind around a winding ice-covered path that's twice the length of a lap around a traditional rink. Reservations for the popular ice rink should be made in advance, as they tend to fill up quickly. Admission to the Skating Ribbon is free Monday through Thursday and for 11am sessions Friday through Sunday (and $5 for other time slots Friday through Sunday, as well as holidays) if you bring your own skates. No skates? Entry is $17–$23 if you need to rent a pair. The Ribbon stays open through March (weather permitting) and even offers hours on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
