Unpretentious, comforting fare dominates at Birmingham’s longest-serving vegetarian restaurant, which enjoys a relaxed feel. Minutes from both New Street and Moor Street and at the mouth of Digbeth’s aspiring throng, The Warehouse Café is located on the first floor of a Victorian property, converted with just the right amount of kook.
The menu is inspired by seasonal British fruit and veg and there's a commitment to a transparent and ethical supply chain. Expect enthusiastic portions or organic, fair trade, locally sourced grub. If available, start with the chilli kick of the vegan corn and aubergine fritters, which are served up with organic popcorn and plenty of coriander. We’ve also been known to go slightly nutty for the battered halloumi ‘Fish n Chips’; crisp, light, limey and set off by a pea purée packing a notable wasabi punch, it’s the contrasting textures that makes this plate extremely satisfying.
A scheme piloting the use of allotment produce gifted to The Warehouse Café by friends and supporters is currently being trialled, so keep an eye on a menu that promises to get more local and more scrummy.
