Time Out says

No frills, great grills and excellent value is what you can expect from this Handsworth pub.

The environment is male-dominated, the menu is meaty and sports screenings mean it can get rowdy, but if you’re in it for the food you’ll just have to put up and dig in. The Grove is not somewhere you would head for an elegant experience; adding to the buzz are actual buzzers that are dispensed when orders are placed and call you to collect when the food is plated.

Samosas and pakoras appear alongside all the usual suspects on the starter menu, along with Indo-Chinese bits – spring roll and anything prefixed with ‘chilli’. All the curry house classic main courses are available, but do yourself a favour and go for sauceless, succulent grills, freshly flamed breads, of which the priciest is just £2, and a smoky tadka dal – the latter counting as the healthy pulse part of a very cheap eat. The traditional ales on tap provide choices beyond the typical cold, wet lager.
