Ginger’s is part of a prestigious family tree. It’s housed within Purnell’s Bistro, which, along with the nearby restaurant of the same name, is owned by Birmingham’s renowned Michelin-starred chef, Glynn Purnell.
Newhall Street in the Colmore Business District is the setting for this elegant bar, and the location is perfect to tempt in the suited and booted professionals of the area after a busy day at the office. Ginger’s also does a good trade with weekend visitors too, which is testament to its popularity as a drinking destination.
The decor is sleek and impressive without being overly fancy. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are friendly. Plus, the bartenders really know their stuff.
The cocktails (£6-£9) are expert blends ranging from the classic to the contemporary. Indulgent ingredients abound – think cinnamon sugar, fig liqueur and honey water. The Pear and Cinnamon Caipiroska is a particular stunner, made with a blend of Absolut Pear, pear brandy, cinnamon syrup (made in-house) and lime.
To accompany your drinks, Purnell’s Bistro does a great range of bar bites. The garlic and chilli prawns (£7) are delicious and come with homemade bread. Another good pick is the smoked bacon scotch egg (£8), a traditional treat guaranteed to satisfy.
